Mini Carnival

Event: NOORLAND
Venue: Nescafe
Date: 23rd October 2023, 1 – 1:30PM

With every passing day, the excitement among the student body towards Noor 2023 reaches new heights with the highly engaging pre-Noor events, thoughtfully curated by the talented Offline Publicity team. The seemingly empty campus today, owing to students travelling back home for the long weekend, was echoing the laughter and music from the Nescafe area. The four super fun and unique games designed by the Offline Publicity team ignited the inherent competitive spirit found in every ELSA, and students were queuing to have a shot at their favourite games even 20 minutes past lunchtime!

The first game starting from the right-hand side was ‘What’s in the Box?’. An already popular and carnival-favourite game was presented with a twist – instead of one player, two players would insert their hands inside the closed box, and the player who gets 3 correct guesses at the mysterious objects inside would be the winner. Most students paired up with their friends, and playful banter ensued once the game started.

The second game was ‘Glass Pyramid’. This nostalgic mela game challenged participants to test their aim and precision by throwing a tennis bowl to topple a stacked pyramid of steel glasses. Occasionally, someone with great hand-eye coordination would bring down all the glasses at one go, and would get a Melody toffee as a reward. The OP team volunteers in-charged with manning this table were sent running to collect the fallen glasses and speeding ball after every throw, but this did not dampen their enthusiasm at all.

Next in line was ‘Balloon Race’. Students had to participate in pairs, and each pair had to carry a balloon pressed between their bodies to the finish line. The pair to reach the end without dropping the balloon the fastest, would earn the Melody. Some pairs were seen as being too keen to bring the toffee home, and their hastiness would result in the balloon flying away and their bodies colliding. Other pairs were more calm and collected in their strategy, and took a slow yet steady approach. In spite of the game plan, all participants were having a great time at the game.

The last game was ‘Mini Basketball’. A cardboard was set up vertically, and five colourful cups with different points tags were attached to the cardboard in a symmetrical manner. Participants were given one chance to throw a tiny ball into the cup with the highest points possible. The cups at the bottom carried the lowest point tag of 5, and the points gradually increased as one moved up, with the largest score being 20. A myriad of expressions were visible at this stall in quick succession. Huffs of disappointment were followed by shouts of victory, led by tight grins of those whose balls landed in the middle cups.

Among the games was also a stall dedicated to collecting names for the luck draw. The ‘Raffles’ stall had two busy OP volunteers explaining the rules of the raffle to onlookers and jotting down the contact details of interested students. The rules were crisp and clear – participate in every game, and win a chance to take home an exciting gift prepared by the OP team. The lucky draw took place two times in total, and each time saw potential winners circling the stall in huge numbers, and cheers erupting once the name of the lucky person was announced.

The zeal and passion shown by the student body at today’s event was a testimony to the successful ideation done by the OP team, and simmering anticipation in the air for Noor 2023. Some stalls proved to be more popular and liked by the student body, namely the ‘What’s in the Box?’ and ‘Glass Pyramid’ games. At all times, there was a queue of at least 15 students lining up at both of these stalls, with students eager to beat their friends and set personal records. The music playlist prepared by the OP team added a sense of dance and synth to the already-lively scene, and some students were seen forming circles to break a leg at campus-favourite rhythms like “Taare Gin Gin”. There was no dip in the queue length even long after the lunch time got over. As expected, LSR students cannot be deterred from their goal once they set their minds on it!
